서비스중인 장비의 상태를 파악하여 언제 유지보수를 실행하는게 좋을지 예측하여 의사결정에 도움을 주는 기법.

정기적인 (time-based) 예방정비(Preventive maintenance)의 대치되는 개념으로, 
right information을 가지고,  right time에  Corrective maintenance를 하여 쓸데없는 다운타임과 비용을 절약하려는데 목적이 있다.
